At 6'2, 185 pounds, Zach Major is a key part of  the blueline for the North Bay U16 AAA Trappers.

The Sturgeon Falls Ontario product is a workhorse on the back end for a squad that currently sits in third place (8-2-0-2) against older U18 competition in the Great North Midget League.

"I am a well-rounded D that likes to play offensive and really strong below the dots," said Major.

Major also prides himself on his vision, stick play, and physical play.

"I still keep in my mind like I play like I'm the bigger guy, I may not be but I play like it, also I have got to be faster so I work on my speed. I am a big guy but I try as well to be one of the fastest guys on the ice."

Scouts have been watching Major progress this season, whether in tournament play or in Great North Midget League action where the big defender has netted two goals and five assists for seven points in 12 regular-season games.

“He is a confident right shot defender with size and strength, and he can do a little bit of everything for you,” said one OHL scout.

Major also has chipped in one assist playing two regular season games as a call-up affiliate player with the Powassan Voodoos where the Sturgeon Falls product did not look out of place.

Major says he has trained hard despite the fact hockey was shut down in the north in early 2021..

"I shot a lot of pucks daily, worked out a lot. I played a lot of basketball to keep in shape with my cardio and that was a daily thing," said Major.

Major also prides himself on being a leader with this 2006 Trappers group that he has played with since minor Atom.

"I am a great leader, I try the best to get my teammates to be the best they can," he said.

Major has the confidence to believe his hockey career will continue to take off beyond Triple A Hockey with the 2022 OHL Priority Selection approaching.

"I worked hard to be here and I am willing to work even harder to become a next-level player.'
