Officer assists man, then assists arrest

A motorist in Huntsville that found himself stuck in a snowbank Friday, must have been happy to get a helping hand---at first. It was just before 9 p.m. when an off duty OPP officer was traveling on Aspdin Road.

A motorist in Huntsville that found himself stuck in a snowbank Friday, must have been happy to get a helping hand---at first.

It was just before 9 p.m. when an off duty OPP officer was traveling on Aspdin Road.

He saw a car in the ditch, and stopped to help.

The driver of a GMC Sierra pickup was trying to get his truck out of the snowbank when the officer found him.

The officer checked on the well-being of the driver and found that he had been drinking.

With the help of the other officers, the driver John Jack West, 68, of Huntsville was arrested and charged with impaired driving, and having more than 80mgs of alcohol per 100mltrs of blood.

He was also charged with driving under suspension.

West was released and will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice on February 18, in Huntsville to answer to his charges.
