The North Bay Service Canada Centre for Youth (SCCY) will host its annual Odd Job Week from July 5 to July 9, 2010. Odd Job Week promotes youth employment by linking young people seeking casual summer employment and employers or homeowners seeking help.

“The Odd Job Squad has proven to be very successful in past years” said, Derek Clouatre, Youth Services Officer. “We have a number of enthusiastic students looking for casual employment with various different skills sets and qualifications.”

Young people can sign up with the Odd Job Squad at the SCCY. They indicate their work experience and availability and are then notified when a suitable job is available. Examples of odd jobs include; lawn work, clerical duties, painting and flyer distribution. The duration of the each job can vary from a few hours to a few weeks. Visit the North Bay SCCY while they promote their Odd Job services at the Northgate Shopping Centre on Wednesday, July 7 – Thursday, July 8 from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Service Canada Centres for Youth link youth and employers. The Centres provide employers or homeowners with a location to post job openings and young people with job postings, interview advice, résumé building and job search strategies. SCCYs also provide valuable information on health and safety in the workplace.

“Every student and homeowner is provided with health and safety information to ensure that proper equipment is provided and worn on the job” continues Derek Clouatre, “we want to ensure that both parties know their rights and responsibilities”.

Homeowners or employers interested in using our services and youth looking for summer employment can visit the North Bay SCCY between 8:30 a.m. – 4: 00 p.m. at 107 Shirreff Avenue, call 705-472-3700 ext 551, fax 705-494-8789, or e-mail [email protected].
