There was a feeling of oompah in the air Friday night at Memorial Gardens, as the North Bay and Nipissing Rotary clubs hosted October Feast.

A polka band from Kitchener-Waterloo brought the sounds of Munich into the Gardens, beer flowed freely, and there were food tables where bratwurst, schnitzel, pretzels and beer nuts could be purchased.

The event, the first of its kind in North Bay "in a long time," said Chris Mayne, spokesman for the clubs, and it was held to raise money for the new North Bay Regional Health Centre.

"We're happy with the number of people out here, the beer tastes great and the band sounds terrific," Mayne said.

At least 660 tickets had been sold by 4:30 Friday afternoon, Mayne said, and he expects the final total to be close to 800.

The clubs hope to raise between $5,000 and $10,000 for the hospital.

"We’ve got some ideas to build on," Mayne said.
"North Bay hasn't had one of these for 15 years, so we're looking forward to doing this again next year."
