Nipissing MPP Vic Fedeli isn't surprised that thoughts of separating Northern Ontario from the south are gaining momentum.

He says it's a rising tide of resentment about how the present government is treating northerners.

"This is a reaction to the fact that Kathleen Wynne has continued to not only ignore Northern Ontario and the needs of Northern Ontario but understanding Northern Ontario.

"A lot of the policies that they develop are urban-centric and ignore rural and Northern Ontario and have created a huge discontent amongst the people which is why myself and MPP Norm Miller stand in the legislature every single day and relate how what the government is working on will affect us in Northern Ontario. But this government really does not understand that, plain and simple"
