North Bay’s Dominique Bouchard began her Olympic journey early this afternoon as she competed in the heats for the 100 M backstroke.
Today, the former North Bay Titan swimmer was in the fifth heat and was in the same heat as her teammate Kylie Masse.
Bouchard finished fourth in her heat and had the 12th overall best time at 1:00:18, and her teammate finished third.
That time pushed Bouchard to tonight’s 100 m semi-final at 10:30 p.m. tonight.
If Bouchard gets through, she could be swimming for gold in the final on Monday night.
The 100 M backstroke is the second event Bouchard qualified for at the Canadian Olympic qualifier in April.
Bouchard finished second to Kylie Masse from Toronto in the 100 M backstroke at that event. She also qualified second to teammate Hilary Caldwell in the 200 M backstroke.
Later this week Bouchard will race in her signature event the 200 M backstroke where she is considered a medal contender.
