A pair of Widdifield students are working towards putting together a full-length movie to be shot in the North Bay area in late August.

Garrett Ryan and Darren Summersby will be shooting a movie called “Undertaking Red,” a two year project that is coming together for the two 16-year-olds.

“The story is about a small time drug dealer who has dropped out of high school and he meets this missing boy who has mild autism and has ran away from home,” said Ryan who has taken film and drama classes at Widdifield.

“They meet and become friends and a mistake from the drug dealers past catches up to him and the two of them flee into the forest and then we have our story in the forest.”

Summersby will be the Director of Photography for the small budget film which he and Ryan hope can be assembled and sent to film festivals across Ontario.

“We only have a couple days shooting and we are shooting a 90 to 100 minute film so it definitely is really adventurous going in and trying this whole thing but we are confident we have put together a great team that’s going to be able to do it and I hope it turns out really well,” said Summersby.

Ryan says putting a movie together of this length will be a great accomplishment.

“I’ve always wanted to make a movie of my own, like a bigger movie and this is going to be a full film,” said Ryan.

“I’ve never had the opportunity to do something like this before, it really intrigued me and I thought it would be a good opportunity and good experience to have and put in my portfolio.”

Filming is expect to take place August 24th to 28th in the North Bay area.  The young film producers still have some non-union acting opportunities available:

Here are the character descriptions:

RED: Teenager, 14-17, Male, Lead. Red is a young looking teenager with high functioning autism. He has a heart of gold, and stays positive through the bad things happening. Red knows he's not a normal person and he's very insecure about that.

LOU: Teenager, 14-20, Male, Supporting. Lou is the best friend and partner of the main antagonist. He tries to act like he's okay with everything that his friend does. Even going so far as to participate in these bad things to try to prove himself.

RED'S MOM/DAD: Old enough to be the parent of a teenager. Compassionate, Caring. Concerned

Arbor: Voice actor, brother of Lou. He was the Buyer's friend, until the Buyer started to lose it. When Arbor is called by the Buyer, he is at first very distant, then very angry.

Armbos: A made up character from the Buyer's delusion. As he's dying, the Buyer realizes he's all alone, he's screwed over everyone he's ever known. As comfort, a made up character (Armbos) comforts him before death. Saying that he'll be his friend. Later, Armbos is seen by another character, leaving the viewers confused at who or what he is.

Fake Lou: Guy that looks nothing like the real Lou, appears in one of the Buyer's delusions. Claims to be the real Lou and gets in an argument with the Buyer over it. Small role.
