The North Bay Pride Festival, scheduled for September 15 to 19 is getting  a further injection of cash from the federal government.

An additional $90,400 will be awarded to the organizing committee to assist with the operation costs for this year’s festival. This funding is in addition to the $41,500, that was announced this past June.

"It is with ongoing support financially that allows us, to create an opportunity to showcase wonderful talent from our communities, which allows us to create engaging discussions about equality in Canada and around the world," says Pride Communications Director Jason Maclennan. "The LGBTQ community has struggled for many years to be equal, and this only assists us in delivering that message of equality. What is good for the queer community is good for everyone."

This funding comes under the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage program (BCAH).

MP Anthony Rota supports the effort.

"These festivals bring people together to celebrate our local arts and culture and heritage and it is important to continue to support the 2SLGBTQ+ community here in Nipissing-Timiskaming.”

The BCAH program increases opportunities for local artists, artisans, heritage performers or specialists to get involved in their community through festivals, events and projects. It also allows local groups to commemorate their local history and heritage.
