City police Traffic Enforcement Officer, Cst. Ken Ayres has some good news this afternoon about drivers and school buses.
Ayres says that there were zero school bus related infractions to report during their campaign kickoff.
"Patrol officers will work closely with the Traffic Enforcement Officer to implement the North Bay Police Service’s back to school campaign," says Ayres in a news release. "We will continue to monitor school zones for any speed related infraction, or any other Highway Traffic Act infraction, to ensure the public’s safety and that of our students and the faculty."
Results of the Back to School traffic enforcement for Tuesday September 5th:
- One driver was ticketed for speeding in the 1200 block of Lakeshore Drive near Sunset school. A reported speed of 70km/h in a posted 50km/h zone. This results in a $95 fine and three demerit points.
- Police followed school buses along school routes Tuesday morning and during their afternoon routes. All drivers seen by police were respecting the rules of the road in relation to monitoring speed and respecting stopped school buses with their overhead red lights flashing.
The North Bay Police Service’s Back to School Traffic Enforcement Campaign continues every weekday until Friday, September 15th. Drivers are reminded to STOP for the school bus in BOTH DIRECTIONS when its upper red lights are flashing, regardless if it is a multi-lane highway, unless divided by a barrier or median.
Reduce speed to 40 km/h in community safety zones and wait for pedestrians, including school crossing guards, to completely cross the road before proceeding at school crossings.
