North Bay Hydro’s Christmas of Conservation string of events continues with the Downtown Christmas Walk from 6 to 9pm on Friday, November 23.

The Christmas of Conservation initiative was designed to promote North Bay Hydro’s mandate of responsible energy consumption and conservation and began with a Christmas light exchange at Northgate Shopping Centre’s Food Court on Saturday, November 17.

During the Downtown Christmas Walk, people are once again invited to trade in a string of old Christmas lights for a new, environmentally friendly LED Christmas lights, one string per household while supplies last.

“It is our mandate to promote energy conservation and with Christmas, and all the lights that people tend to put up, we figured this would be a perfect way to combine our message with a small token that would help our customers save a bit of money and the environment,” Hydro Manager of Human Resources and Administration Penny Charette said.

As part of the Downtown Christmas Walk initiative, North Bay Hydro has also been working with downtown merchants to promote their Commercial Lighting Program (CLP). CLP entitles businesses that complete a retrofit of their establishment to environmentally friendly lighting to an incentive to cover part of their expenses.

“The downtown businesses have shown incredible interest in the program and we are thrilled with the numbers that have signed on so far,” Charette said.
