The North Bay Regional Health Centre (NBRHC) is welcoming its first-ever cardiologist to the local hospital.

Dr.Jari Tuomi is looking forward to bringing new cardiac services to our area, both at the hospital and through his community-based practice, North Bay Cardiology.

Dr. Tuomi will be leading a new Congestive Heart Failure Clinic at the hospital in addition to providing care to hospital inpatients and community outpatients.

The NBRHC, together with the Nipissing Wellness Ontario Health Team, submitted an application to be selected for the Congestive Heart Failure Quality Based Procedure Expansion Project and say they are pleased to be one of the six sites selected for this project.

"The new clinic will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team and will be able to deliver truly comprehensive care for our patients living with congestive heart failure," the NBRHC stated in a release.

Dr. Tuomi, who grew up in Sault Ste. Marie and who later completed medical school at NOSM is excited to be setting up his permanent practice in North Bay, located at Canadore College's The Village.

Dr. Tuomi has a strong interest in academics, both research and teaching, having completed a Ph.D. in physiology and researching the mechanisms of atrial fibrillation. He is looking forward to working with the NOSM medical students and resident physicians and hopes to help improve the cardiology teaching delivered here in North Bay.
