North Bay City Council overspends on the Gardens budget

North Bay City Council met on Monday evening with a busy itinerary.


The Memorial Garden's reconstruction saw the first and hopefully, the last of its budget increases.


At least $500,000 dollars was added to the cost of an already expensive $12 million dollar project.


Council cited “unforeseen circumstances” as the justification for the increase to seemingly weary tax base, concerned with mega projects and uncontrolled expenditures.


In other council news, the developer of the former hospital cite, facing criticism of the proposed 48 lot expansion, asked council to vote for or against it.


As it stands, the developer, not ready to make adjustments to the proposal, wants council to decide “yes or no” to the current plans.


Council announced the skate park will not be returning to its former site, Lee Park.


Instead, they are hoping to secure a new suitable location in the near future.


Lastly, a minute of silence was observed for former City Hall clerk, Bonnie Harrison, who passed away earlier this week at the age of 72.


She was the first female employee at City Hall.
