Military personnel from 22 Wing North Bay will be working alongside more than 60 members of the South Carolina Army National Guard’s 263rd Army Air and Missile Defence Command from August 11th to August 22nd.

They will be operating air defence artillery scenarios as part of North American Aerospace Defence Command (NORAD) training, which is part of NORAD’s ongoing series of Vigilant Shield exercises.

“NORAD continuously works to defend against potential threats to the airspace of Canada and the United States, both conventional and unconventional. Exercises like this one not only hone the skills of our men and women, but build upon our ability to work together seamlessly in support of NORAD’s commitment to detect, deter, and defend against threats to Canada’s airspace,” stated Major-General Christian Drouin, 1 Canadian Air Division and the Canadian NORAD Region in a release.

The 263rd AAMDC will deploy to North Bay with short-range air defence equipment, including three sets of Sentinel radars and Avenger missile launchers. The American unit will not deploy with live ammunition and will not conduct live-fire missile training during the exercise.
