Nipissing University officially opened the doors to its new Muskoka campus in Bracebridge, Ontario, on Saturday October 25, with a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house to welcome the community.

The beautiful new two-storey 26,000 square foot facility can accommodate 675 students and is equipped with state-of-the-art wireless technology. It includes a 100 seat lecture hall, ten classrooms, a learning commons, a dedicated fine arts room, a science lab, two seminar rooms and the Lakehouse lounge, as well as offices and meeting rooms for faculty and staff. Construction of the new $6.6 million facility began in October 2007. Students began taking courses in the new building in September 2008.

“It is very exciting to be beginning the latest chapter in the history of Nipissing University in Muskoka with the opening of this beautiful new facility,” said Dennis Mock, Nipissing University president. “Nipissing University thanks the town of Bracebridge for their support for this project. We are very proud of the wonderful relationship that we enjoy with this community and we look forward to much continued success. I’d also like to thank the Learning in Muskoka Campaign Cabinet for their expertise and dedication throughout this project.”

“This new building will allow us to grow our presence in Muskoka, offering more courses for more students, while significantly enhancing the quality of the student experience,” said Doug Parker, Associate vice-president, Muskoka and Graduate Studies. “Our students are already openly expressing their enthusiasm and joy with our magnificent new building.”

“This is a wonderful day for Bracebridge and Muskoka,” said Bracebridge Mayor Don Coates. “Having the new Nipissing University Muskoka campus in Bracebridge brings many significant benefits to the community. Local students will now be able to receive their university degree right at home in Bracebridge. As well, there are numerous economic spinoffs and many new partnerships that will flourish between the university and the community.”
