Canadore College and Nipissing University continue to remain open to amid the news of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Nipissing University continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 situation," stated Nipissing University on its website.

"At the present time, there are no COVID-19 cases at Nipissing University.  We understand these are uncertain times.  The safety of the Nipissing community is our top priority and all structures are in place to make decisions quickly in a rapidly changing environment, and as information becomes available from public health authorities.

Officials say Nipissing University will continue to follow its pandemic plan, and for now, regular operations will continue.

"In addition to the Pandemic Committee, various levels of the administration continue to work with Council of Ontario Universities, Universities Canada, health authorities and community partners to coordinate planning and information," the release continued.

"As a reminder, the university has already taken precautionary measures by installing additional hand sanitizer stations at various locations on campus and using cleaning solutions to ensure high touch surfaces are disinfected regularly.

"We will continue to keep our campus community informed of new developments through social media and nipissingu.ca/coronavirus."

Canadore College has released similar information.  On Thursday, Canadore College has sent home a handful of staff who attended the recent Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada convention in Toronto, as a precautionary measure.

"Canadore College is having ongoing communications with our Campus Health Centre staff who continues to be in communication with both the North Bay-Parry Sound District Health Unit (NBPSDHU) and Public Health Ontario (PHO).  Based on these discussions, we have implemented the appropriate precautions and we continue to monitor the situation.

"We want to reassure everyone that currently the risk in Ontario as well as the North Bay-Parry Sound District, remains low. There are no known or suspected cases in our area. Regardless, we are reviewing the protocols we currently have in place at the Campus Health Centre, including triage and patient screening.
