Nipissing University will host a discussion panel focusing on First Nation education and economic development opportunities on Thursday, March 26, from 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. in the Nipissing Theatre (room F213).

The discussion panel is comprised of Grand Council Chief John Beaucage; Brian Smithies director, Strategic Coordination, Ministry of Northern Development and Mines; Michael Hill, president of Northern College, Craig Cooper, Dean of Arts and Science at Nipissing University; and Barbara Taylor, president of Canadore College.

Creating education and employment opportunities for Aboriginal peoples is a key theme emerging in discussions about the development of a Growth Plan for Northern Ontario.

“Nipissing University is ideally positioned to look at opportunities for First Nations learners and to put forward these ideas for consideration in the development of the Northern Growth Plan,” said Doug Dokis, event organizer and Aboriginal Services and Programs Administrator at Nipissing. “We hope that by engaging stakeholders in open dialogue on potential opportunities for First Nations learners, Nipissing can contribute to this important process and help to strengthen our region for long-term growth.”
