On February 13th a Russell Street resident contacted West Nipissing police to report a fraud.
The complainant advised police that he had posted an ATV for sale of Kijiji and that a prospective buyer contacted him and sent a cheque to pay for the vehicle.
The buyer then contacted him and advised that the sum of money on the cheque was greater than the price agreed upon and requested the complainant deposit the cheque and send the difference in cash back to him.
Police are warning people that this is a scam, the cheque will not be cleared by the bank and the seller will, in turn, be responsible for the financial loss.
The buyer simply wants the cash and has no real intention of purchasing the posted article.
