CGB is looking for more neighbourhoods in the North Bay area to participate.

Clean Green Beautiful North Bay (CGB) has launched a pilot project called Growing Resilient Neighbourhoods (GRN) in two local micro-neighbourhoods and wants to expand to others.

"There has been significant growth in ethnic diversity, newcomers to our northern city, technology, and development in our city and neighborhoods," says a news release from the group. "These elements will shape how our neighbourhoods will look and how they will interact. Our city and partners can offer support to neighbourhoods to develop stronger and more inclusive neighbourhoods and, with changing social, economic and environmental climate, can be considered a priority."

CGB is supported by the North Bay Police Service and the City.

"This initiative is about creating a clean, green, beautiful, and resilient community for our neighbours within the City of North Bay," says the release.

The first neighbourhood to join in July was Birch Haven, which includes McLean Rd., Avalon St., Killare St., Vivyenne Ct., Galahad Ct. and Camel Ct.

The second neighbourhood is West End which includes Timmins St. and Jane St. to Main St. West.

These areas have "Neighbourhood Leaders” who volunteer their time handing out flyers about GRN, increasing interest, and discussing the importance of resilient neighbourhoods.

The initiative has a five-step plan.

  • Get to know your neighbours
  • Don’t be a target
  • Report suspicious activity
  • Get out and about
  • Keep our neighbourhoods neat and clean

Both neighbourhoods hosted gatherings like where conversations were shared and provided an opportunity to chat with Constable Roger Drolet from the North Bay Police Service on ways to stay safe. Later this month, these two neighbourhoods are hosting family-friendly activities to bring their neighbourhood together.

The feedback from the micro neighbourhoods is so positive, CGB is launching the project to the public says the release.

"We are looking for more neighbourhoods in the North Bay Area to participate."

GRN allows the opportunity to receive educational information like tips and tricks on how to stay safe in your neighbourhood. If interested you participate in neighbourhood challenges like litter pickups, book exchanges, and if interested have a role in Neighbourhood Watch and or Block Parent.

"Being part of Growing Resilient Neighbourhoods will create a friendlier, safer, healthier, and more enjoyable community for all," adds the release.
