The Ontario Government is introducing a new Internet application that will provide unprecedented access to information compiled by the Ontario Geological Survey, Northern Development and Mines Minister Rick Bartolucci announced today at the Prospectors and Developers of Canada annual convention.

“We are launching GeologyOntario, a unique service that provides rapid access to all our geology publications, including reports, maps and assessment reports,” said Bartolucci. “An indispensable tool for understanding Ontario’s wonderful geological endowment, it will promote the sustainable development of our natural resources.”

Designed and built on the same technologies as the ministry’s internationally recognized Crown Land Automated Internet Map (CLAIMaps) System, GeologyOntario holds staggering amounts of data. It includes more than 85,000 reports, 168,000 maps from geology publications and client submitted mining assessment files. Furthermore, hundreds of digital products containing field data, geophysical surveys, geochemical analyses and geochronological measurements are available for downloading free of charge.

“The McGuinty government is working diligently, building on its considerable strengths, to ensure that our province continues to be a preferred destination for mineral investment,” said Bartolucci. “Launching GeologyOntario at this important convention is making thousands of delegates and investors from around the world aware of Ontario’s mineral development advantages.”

The GeologyOntario website can be accessed at ontario.ca/geology. The Ontario government is promoting mineral development as part of its Northern Prosperity Plan. The plan is founded on four key pillars including: Strengthening the North and its Communities; Listening to and Serving Northerners Better; Competing Globally; and Providing Opportunities for All.
