With a stroke of the pen George Maroosis is officially sworn in as a North Bay City Councillor.

Council Chambers were packed Monday night as North Bay's newest mayor and city council was officially sworn in. The inaugural meeting was a quick one full of smiles and well wishes as Mayor Al McDonald along with the new and returning 10 city councillors took their oath of office.

Mayor Al joked that he hopes that all the meetings could be that quick and amiable but he knows that is not likely, however he says this council will act with integrity and pride.

Council is faced with tackling the budget right out of the gates but McDonald says with the experience that makes up the new council the city will be well served.

“I think you’re going to see them serve with integrity and pride and put the citizens first.”

“I mean there’s a lot of challenges we face the budget being the first one it’s on the docket, I believe the green space issue is something we are going to have to work through. And obviously taxes are a key component and create an environment for business, industry and education to succeed is really the grand goal of it all so that we can provide jobs for our citizens so that our community and its citizens can prosper.”

The meeting also saw the confirmation of committee chairs. Councillor Peter Chirico stays on as chair of General Government and is again the city’s Deputy Mayor, while new councillor Sean Lawlor will head Community Services and Councillor Tanya Vrebosch-Merry takes on Engineering and Works.
