Neck gaiters’, scarves, or balaclavas no substitute for a face covering on school buses

Students should wear proper face covering on school buses.

Students on area school buses should wear proper face coverings says Chuck Sequin, the Executive Director of the Nipissing-Parry Sound Student Transportation Services.

“Elementary students and secondary students in the seven northern Ontario public health unit regions will proceed with returning to in-person learning on January 11, 2021,” states Seguin in a news release today. This includes the Nipissing and Parry Sound Districts. Therefore, the student transportation system will return to its normal status effective January 11.

With colder weather on the horizon, Seguin asks that students wear proper face coverings while riding the bus.

“Public health does not recommend ‘neck gaiters’, scarves, or balaclavas as an equivalent to, or substitute for a face covering. Most of these outerwear accessories are made up of single-layer, loose, coarsely woven, or knitted materials and, are less effective at filtering respiratory droplets compared to a cloth face covering with two or more layers. These clothing items also do not cover the nose and mouth areas well enough to be effective.”
