The Near North District School Board is pleased to announce that Karen Bond, teacher and secondary program coordinator, was named 'CGA Accounting Teacher of the Year' by the Ontario Business Educators Association in conjunction with the Certified General Accountants Association of Ontario for her contribution to Business Education, in particular Accounting. This award honours a teacher whose efforts reflect a commitment above and beyond regular teaching considerations and serves as a role model for other teachers.

On Thursday, April 19, the CGA Accounting Teacher of the Year award will be presented to Karen at the Ontario Business Educators Association Spring Conference in Toronto.

“Karen is an exemplary teacher of students and staff in many areas, in particular the subject of accounting. She models and shares highly developed expertise, experiences, innovation and professionalism with students, staff, board personnel and the extended educational community.

Congratulations to Mrs. Bond on receiving this well deserved award,” said Terry Blair, Superintendent of Schools.

Karen has promoted the awareness of Business Education within the community and has contributed to the development of Business Education within the Near North District School Board.

She has been working for the last two and a half years as a secondary program coordinator at the Board Office. Prior to that, Karen was a Business Studies teacher at West Ferris Secondary School for 18 years and team leader of Business & Computer Studies for 12 years.

She has been extensively involved in Ministry of Education‟s curriculum development, student success projects and served as the 2009 President of the Ontario Business Educators Association.

She has been instrumental in the success of the Board‟s Specialist High Skills Majors programs.

The Near North District School Board is grateful to have Karen and colleagues like her in its employ.
