Rookie politician Rob Boulet had a smile on his face as results came in Monday night showing that locally his message had struck a chord with voters.
Boulet finished third to Anthony Rota and Jordy Carr, picking up 22 per cent of the vote, a huge improvement from the 16 per cent gained by Kathleen Jodouin in the 2015 federal election.
"It's gone pretty good," he told BayToday. "It's been a really good experience. Every day was something new with different challenges. I've had an amazing team of people and so much community support it's been overwhelming."
Boulet says he was surprised by some of the support, especially from Nipissing First Nation Chief Scott McLeod.
"We went out there a couple of times and listened to the issues they were facing and we talked about what we could do and then to get an endorsement was pretty amazing."
Boulet says he"probably" would run again.
With 192 of 205 polls reporting Boulet sat about 8,000 votes behind Rota, but about 6,000 votes ahead of the fourth-place Green candidate Alex Gomm.
