Holding her breath and jumping in feet first Rona Eckert accepted the nomination as federal New Democratic Party candidate for the Nipissing‐Timiskaming Riding Monday night.

Eckert, a single mother of two who has lived in the riding for the last 14 years, recently cut her political teeth in the recent municipal election where she ran for a seat on the Nipissing Township Council. While she was unsuccessful in her bid she says with guidance and help she will do a good job at representing the riding.

“I hope to give more awareness to working class people as well as learn for maybe next time,” she told reporters after accepting the nomination.

She says as a Canada Post employee and union member she brings negotiating skills and understanding of the working class to the table.
