The North Bay Downtown Improvement Area's Downtown Heritage Days inaugural Music in the City event held during the Civic Long Weekend has been declared a success.

With over 25 local musical acts from Friday evening until Sunday evening Downtown North Bay proved that the City of North Bay was the place to be during this long weekend.

Hundreds of music listeners joined downtown on the Friday evening to listen to such local acts as the 22 Wing Stage Band, Form One, Killing for Friday, Inflict and the evening closed with Dig Newton.

Thousands of spectators participated in the festivities as it continued Saturday with the Downtown Merchant's Sidewalk Sale and Community Group Display including CFB 22 Wing/Canadian Forces Recruiting Centre static displays, Hockey Heritage North/Hockey Ville Pond Hockey, Habitat for Humanity and more.

Those in attendance were treated to two Music Theatre Groups - TOROS highlights of their production SEUSSICAL and Dreamcoat Fantasy Theatre's production of Lavigne and the Magic Blueberry Tree.

The music continued on Saturday including local talent such as Jake Thomas, Jeff Reid & Chris Dube, Jim Harney, State of Sound, Pure Sonic Intoxication, Unisys and closing the evening with Minus the Royals.

The weekend ended on Sunday with an impromptu pond hockey challenge with members of the Canadian Forces Base taking on the combined efforts of the DIA, Hockey Heritage North and Hockeyville. The Downtown Farmers' Market expanded their days to include our Sunday event. Also, Sunday featured a country flair with musical talents of Moe McGuinty, Unisys, and Ivory Higden. Harley Renaud and Lovin' Country took the stage for over two hours in support of Heritage Days and to bring recognition to their upcoming Country Music Singing Contest.

The weekend ended with between 600 to 700 individuals attending a four hour Street Dance hosted by Billy Vrebosch and Family.

The organizers of this year's event would like to thank all in attendance, the volunteers, sponsors, merchants, members of all three levels of government, and ALL THE MUSICAL GROUPS that DONATED their time to make this years event a huge success. We look forward to having everyone in attendance at next years DOWNTOWN HERITAGE DAYS - MUSIC in the CITY.
