Murder suspect arrested

A missing person call turned into a murder investigation Saturday in Carling Township, north of Parry Sound.

At approximately 8 p.m., West Parry Sound OPP got a call about a missing person. The Canine Unit, Emergency Response Team and Helicopter started a search and later located a dead woman in a rural area in Carling Township.   

The victim has been identified as Nancy McGrath, 39, from Carling Township. A post mortem examination is scheduled to take place tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Office of the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service in Sudbury.

As a result of the investigation, Vincent Barnes, 26,  from Carling Township, was arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder.

Barnes appeared in court in Parry Sound, Ontario this morning.

The investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Heidi Stewart of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the West Parry Sound OPP Crime Unit and the North East Region OPP Crime Unit.
