The Municipality of Calvin is receiving help from Ontario in response to tax revenue losses.

The province will provide a one-time special assistance grant of over $29,500 to help the municipality offset lowered tax revenue. This grant supports Calvin in managing its municipal services.

“This grant will help ease some of the financial pressure the Municipality of Calvin has experienced due to the economic downturn. The Province commends the efforts of the Municipality of Calvin to manage its costs under difficult circumstances," said Monique Smith, MPP for Nipissing.

“Calvin has suffered a major assessment loss to our large industrial tax class due to the continuing decline in the forest industry,” said Wayne Brown, Mayor of the Municipality of Calvin. “This one-time Special Assistance Grant from the Provincial Government of Ontario is sincerely appreciated and could not have come at a more crucial time in our annual budget process. It will assuredly be used to help offset the tax rate increases currently facing the municipality and relieve some of the hardship on our local people who are already suffering job losses and escalating costs.”
