UPDATED: Man arrested (Multiple cop cars and helicopter in wild police chase)

Update: On August 24, Mattawa OPP responded to a request from Gatineau Police Service in arresting a male believed to be in the area.

The 31 year old male from Gatineau was apprehended on Highway 11 in North Bay today (Thursday afternoon) with the assistance of the officers from the North Bay, Powassan and Almaguin Highlands Detachments; the North Bay Crime Unit; members of the Emergency Response Team; members of the North East Highway Safety Division; OPP Aviation Services and members of the North Bay Police Service.

As a result of this investigation, Highway 11 just south of Seymour Street and north of Lakeshore Drive was closed briefly. 

The investigation remains ongoing at this time.

OPP say they'll soon be releasing details about a high-speed highway police chase that ended on Highway 11 on the outskirts of North Bay.

The chase apparently started in Mattawa after police traced a cellphone ping.

A spike belt was tossed across the road by Bonfield but the driver swerved to avoid it .

A man is now in police custody.
