A house fire at 782 Algonquin Ave. just before 10 this morning has closed the busy roadway in both directions.
As well, first responders worked to save the lives of multiple pets, however, witnesses tell BayToday there are no injuries to humans. No-one was home at the time.
Smoke was seen billowing out of a side window and back area of the home.
Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders told BayToday that all three fire stations responded.
"There was heavy smoke and heavy flame when we arrived on-scene but our guys got in real fast and knocked down the fire. Unfortunately, they located a number of pets, three dogs and four cats. Our guys did try to resuscitate the cats and dogs but some did perish in the fire."
Although it appears the fire was centered at the back of the home, Saunders says it's too early to speculate on a cause.
"Our fire prevention people will come in and do a complete investigation to determine the cause of the fire. At this time we don't know."
Saunders did confirm however it was on the main floor of the home.
