More than the control panel broken at Laurentian Hill

Vandalism to the control panel at Laurentian Ski Hill on Monday night left the main hill closed on Tuesday until 3 pm. The beginner hill remained open all day.

Doug Newell, General Manager of the ski hill, expressed genuine concern over the weather conditions we have been experiencing over the Christmas holidays. He stated that if we have another rain storm like that one we witnessed on New Year's Eve, that the hill will have to remain closed until real snow arrives. The efforts with the snow making machines are futile with the warm temperatures.

"We are sitting with high humidity and barely low temperatures," stated Newell. "We are really just painting the grass. Night skiing has been cancelled as well, due to the safety hazard with lack of snow. Night visibility is just not good enough."

While doing the story on the vandalism at Laurentian Ski Hill yesterday, Baytoday's News Director, Kate Adams had an unfortunate accident. Due to the icy conditions at the base of the hill, Kate lost her footing and as a result of the fall, broke her leg. She will be testing out the skills of North Bay's new Orthopedic Surgeon, Dr. Mohammed Khodabandehloo, first-hand.
