Vision Sports and Entertainment officials say they want to promote more than just beach volleyball at their waterfront courts.

The organization hosted the high profile NORCECA Beach Volleyball event in North Bay last summer on the new courts that official opened in 2015.

VSE President Amedeo Bernardi announced a handful of new events that are coming to the Gateway City including another NORCECA tournament.

Last year the high profile event involved more than 30 teams from across North, South and Central America.

“We have the anchor event, the NORCECA happening on the Canada Day weekend, we are very excited because we are bringing the international community to Canada on Canada Day,” said Bernardi at the press event at Memorial Gardens Thursday afternoon.

Bernardi says other volleyball events will include Adult Beach Volleyball Nationals in late August along with another Grand Slam Elite event during Summer in the Park.

While Bernardi says Volleyball is the non-for-profit organizations anchor, he says this summer they will show they can do more at the beautiful facility near the North Bay waterfront.

The organizers announced a Beach Bash licensed event that will take place in conjunction with the three-day NORCECA event on the Canada Day weekend.

“We have to attract the different demographics so you may not want to sit and watch beach volleyball but you may want to party that night with the athletes and all the fans, so that’s exciting and the group is really focussed on that this year so we have the Beach Bash for NORCECA, we are going to have a big party during Summer in the Park, and a big party for the Nationals and that’s why we won the Nationals,” said Bernardi.

“They want to bring bands in, they want to make it a party atmosphere.”

Bernardi adds that they are working on building basketball courts at the venue, as Basketball Canada will host a 3 on 3 tournament which will take place on the Canada Day weekend.

Bernardi says they are also building North Bay’s only North American Bocci courts in hopes of creating a league this summer.
