Forest Fire situation report for Wednesday August 15th

HIGHLIGHTS:
- 12 new; 48 active fires
- 506 fires; 7723.2 hectares to date since Apr.1st

DETAILS:
There have been 12 new fires in the last 24 hours.
All but 4 of the new fires have been lightning caused. The new fires include Bancroft 20, Parry Sound 50, North Bay 72, 73, 74, 75, Algonquin Park 10, 11, Pembroke 14, Sault Ste. Marie 80, Timmins 12 and Wawa 30. All of the fires remain small, under 0.5 hectares in size.

The Ministry of Natural Resources anticipates a busy day today as the sun dries out much of the moisture from yesterday’s rain and lightning fires likely will begin to surface. The East Fire Region has received 15 Type 1 Initial Attack crews from the West Fire Region for additional assistance.

The showers and thundershowers will move into Quebec leaving a few clouds and showers in southeastern Ontario and in areas near James Bay. In the early afternoon, most of the region will have mainly sunny skies. Temperatures will be near seasonal in the south while below seasonal in the north.

The Ministry of Natural Resources reminds the public that before burning please check with your municipality to be advised of their burning regulations. Never leave your fire unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving.

To REPORT a Forest Fire in the East Fire Region please call 1-888-863-FIRE (3473).
