The North Bay Police Service will hire four new police officers thanks to a Provincial program that will pay 100 per cent of their salaries and benefits.

Nipissing MPP Monique Smith announced today that the officers will be hired as part of the Provincial Government's Safer Communities-1,000 Officers Partnership program.

North Bay Police Chief Paul Cook said the new officers will be used to increase police presence and increase road safety initiatives and traffic enforcement.

Cook also said the new officers will help decrease the police service's overtime costs.
