Ryan and Erin Farquhar recall the times when they had to bring their son to One Kids Place in North Bay to help him with his stuttering problem.

He says they have first-hand knowledge of how important this children’s treatment centre is.

“They did some work on my son and all the people here are so well trained to handle that and One Kids Place was where we went,” said Ryan Farquhar.

So the Farquhar family decided to give back.

The North Bay area family has helped fund creation of the new Farquhar Action Activity Hallways.  The four new uniquely themed activity hallways which include a road course to follow as well as an outdoor pond setting on the floors of the hallways

Activity Hallways are desribed as a colourful, creative and playful way for kids to build sensory pathways, connections in the brain that are responsible for sight, touch, and sound which enable kids to complete complex, multi-stage tasks.

“The opportunity for the children to have some sensory exercises and some gross motor exercises really benefit the kids and our therapists as well,” stated Denis Filiatrault, executive director at One Kids Place.

“These installations are kind of state-of-the-art, we have seen them in some of the schools out west and we thought we would bring them here as well and that partnership with the Farquhar family, they have accessed our services before and for them it is really important to have a state-of-the-art facility for kids in our community.”

Filiatrault notes the hallways are also designed for individual play as well as therapy.
