Miss North Ontario could be a North Bay beauty

"It's something I've always wanted to do, but never expected to do it at my age."

A 21 year old North Bay woman has dreams of being crowned Miss North Ontario.

Tiffany Hill is a stay-at-home mum with an 11 month old son.

"Being a mom is awesome. I love it. It's been hard juggling, but there is so much support from the pageant and my fellow delegates. All the other girls are very helpful, so it makes it easier.

The event takes place May 12th to 15th in Sudbury.

"We go through different workshops Thursday and Friday then rehearse."

The preliminary night is Friday the 13th where she's hoping luck will be on her side. The finals are Saturday. Forty-eight women are entered.

Judging is not just on beauty. Contestants have a couple of assignments they have to complete prior to the event.

There is the 'Beauty with Purpose' assignment.

"All of our accomplishments and things we are proud of, or we think are beautiful are put together. I chose to do it in a scrap book. We also had to do pageant promotions, which are things we did to promote the pageant or ourselves as a delegate. We're also marked on public speaking, and a fitness competition, and we are judged on our evening gowns. If you make it to the top 15, there are questions we are judged on also."

"I'm most proud of how I've handled becoming a mom. It's something I've always wanted to do, but never expected to do it at my age."

Tiffany was enrolled in a nursing program but found it "wasn't for me".

"I love helping people so there's many jobs out there for that. Definitely interacting with people of all ages is something I want to do for sure."

Getting in wasn't as easy as it sounds.

"It cost $300 to enter, and you have to come up with $600 in sponsorships and we had to raise a minimum of $100 for our charity which is the Northern Ontario Families of Children with Cancer.  The pageant website says over $2,000,000 has been raised since 2006.

Voting began April 15th for the 'People's Choice'.
