The son of former Premier and Nipissing MPP Mike Harris, Mike Harris Jr. has lost his bid to become the PC candidate for Waterloo.

The nomination meeting, in a pair of packed hotel conference rooms Thursday, chose management consultant Dan Weber instead. It's the former riding of longtime Tory MPP, Elizabeth Witmer,

Harris' mother Janet still lives in North Bay and Mike Jr. grew up here, moving away five years ago.

Lending support during the meeting was his Dad, former Premier Mike Harris.

Mike Jr., the eldest son of Mike and Janet was credited with running a well-funded campaign that helped draw the large crowd. It was his first run at politics.

"Very grateful for the chance to represent the Ontario PC Party in the upcoming election. While things didn't turn out the way I had hoped, I know we are in good hands and I look forward to my continual involvement to make Doug Ford the next Premier of Ontario," Mike Jr. said on Twitter.

The riding association wouldn't release voting results but said the race was competitive.

“Congrats to @DanWeberPC, our candidate in Waterloo,” PC leader Doug Ford tweeted Friday night. “Together we’ll fight for the people to defeat Kathleen Wynne and get ON back on track.”

Weber will take on incumbent Catherine Fife from the NDP Party and Liberal Dorthy McCabe.
