A story of abuse, addiction, and the ability to bounce back will be the focus of a unique speaking tour that will be taking place on Thursday, November 10 at Nipissing University in the newly constructed student centre at 7 p.m.

The inaugural "Courageous Conversations & The Mandate to Be Great Speaking Tour" involves the inspiring story of former NHL prospect Brady Leavold and the resiliency research of author Dr. Rob Graham.

The tour runs in conjunction with the Nipissing University Lakers Break the Ice on Mental Health hockey event to be held on Saturday, November 12.

Organizers say the event will offer "a compelling and impactful speaking series that will challenge your thinking and understanding about issues related to mental health and addictions."

Their timely message and unique collaboration brings together the personal narrative of former elite level hockey player and Tampa Bay Lightning draft pick Brady Leavold and the research and insights of Amazon.ca best-selling author Dr. Rob Graham.

As the founder and CEO of Puck Support, Brady's story of 'overcoming versus being overcome' by addiction and abuse has attracted a very large social media following and has inspired many current and past NHL players.

Brady's story is essentially a message of resilience and the constant challenges of overcoming. The overcoming and resilient message comes from Dr. Rob Graham.

Dr. Graham, an author of the recent Amazon.ca bestseller book entitled, Mandate to Be Great: The 5 Traits of Techno-Resilient People and Organizations offers unique research-based insights that help to better understand Brady's story and the ways that athletes, people and organizations can build resilience.

"Together they are a team that hopes to inspire and to challenge the ‘taken-for-granted’ notions of mental health and addictions that prevent meaningful change, while also offering research-backed insights on how to become more resilient at a time when being resilient matters," organizers stated.

The North Bay launch of this speaker series is presented by the Andre Purcell team. Admission is free and donations to the NUSU Food Bank and Break the Ice on Mental Health Event will be gratefully accepted.
