Friday evening officials with the North Bay Regional Health Centre and North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit confirmed that a  young child died from complications associated with what looks like the flu.

Dr. Jim Chirico, Medical Officer of Health and Dr. Donald Fung, Chief of Staff North Bay Regional Health Centre confirm the child, who for privacy reasons cannot be identified by sex or age other than the fact they were under the age of five, presented at the hospital a couple of days ago with flu-like respiratory illness and that a preliminary screening was positive for Influenza A.

This case is under investigation pending autopsy results.

In light of the tragic event health officials have moved to hold community clinic for flu shots through the Health Unit this weekend Sunday, January 19 from 11am–3pm
 Health Unit, 681 Commercial Street, North Bay.

Flu shots are also available at doctors’ offices and for individuals over the age of five can get the shot at participating pharmacies.
