Mayoral candidate may boycott debate

One of the four mayoral candidates says he may boycott the Chamber of Commerce debate, unless he is provided the questions in advance.

Greg Gray told BayToday that he has written the Chamber asking that he be provided the questions in written form 72 hours before the event to allow him to prepare answers.

Gray says he may just sit in the crowd if the business group continues to "stifle debate."

As well, Gray says he is positive  at least one candidate for mayor will be briefed beforehand, although could not provide proof.

He says, "All candidates deserve equal and fair treatment."

Mayor Al McDonald is a former president of the Chamber.

Chamber Acting-President Jake Lacourse confirmed Gray has contacted the group.

"He feels adamant some candidates will get preferential treatment and others would be prepped ahead of time," he said.

"Our format will stay the same, getting questions from businesses and the public. The questions will not be shared with any of the mayoral candidates," Lacourse stated emphatically.

"If he wants to hold his own debate, he is welcome to do so."
