It is budget time in Mattawa, and town council wants direction from residents as to how their money will be spent throughout 2021.

A special public meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 21 at 6 p. m.

To participate, residents can join the teleconference by calling 1-833-311-4101 and entering the access code 187 814 8644. The call is toll-free.

Residents can also watch the meeting live via the Town of Mattawa’s Facebook page. However, questions cannot be received or answered through Facebook.

People are also welcome to submit questions and comments in advance by contacting the town’s chief administrative officer, Francine Desormeau, at 705-744-5611 ext. 205.

Desormeau can also be reached at [email protected].

Desormeau mentioned that although the town “does not release drafts” of their budgets, council recently held two meetings discussing budget topics, and residents can refer to those for more information.

The meetings, held June 7 and June 8, are both available to view on the town’s Facebook page and include presentations from each municipal department.

“We encourage questions from the public,” Desormeau said, adding that she’s excited about this year’s budget as it contains “a five-year capital plan” for the municipality.
