Sitting Nickel Belt MP Marc Serré has announced his successful nomination as the Liberal candidate for Nickel Belt for the next federal election. The riding includes the municipality of West Nipissing.

Canada will go to the polls to choose a new government on or before Oct. 20, 2025.

“I am beyond humbled and proud to be nominated as federal Liberal Candidate for Nickel Belt in the 45th General Election,” Serré said in a news release. “Representing the constituents of my riding in Ottawa since 2015 has been a great honour, as well as an opportunity of a lifetime and I am thrilled to be able to run for a fourth term. I thank the residents of Nickel Belt for putting your trust in me, I don’t take this responsibility lightly.”

Serré highlighted work he’s done “on important matters like infrastructure, seniors’ issues, broadband, economic development and more. I look forward to building upon the successes achieved while remaining focused on issues that matter most to the constituents of my riding.”

Saying healthcare affordability is among his priorities, Serré said he wanted to reaffirm “his commitment to working together with northern Ontario municipalities, Chambers of Commerce throughout the region, and private industries.”

“It is thanks to these combined team efforts that during the pandemic alone, we were able to secure  over $225 million in federal funding for communities across Nickel Belt: Greater Sudbury, Gogama,  French River, Killarney, St. Charles and West Nipissing just to name a few.”
