OPP, North Bay Police and the Fire Department combined this morning to rescue a local, man in his sixties, who had walked out onto the ice of Lake Nipissing.

A witness says authorities were called around 6 a.m. when a wife noticed her husband missing.

Police forces started a grid search and found him alive around just before 8 a.m. several hundred metres offshore. He was taken to hospital.

Fire Chief Grant Love says his department sent the rescue truck which includes a snowmobile to aid in the search.

It joined others from city police and the OPP.
