The incident began Wednesday when Cst. Jason Long and Cst. Barry McIntosh of the North Bay Police Service responsded to a vehicle/pedestrian collision in the Commerce Court area of the city.

The officers arrived and found that a pedestrian had run in front of a vehicle and then gotten up and enter a building nearby. Witnesses saw this same man leave the area entirely.

Long and McIntosh then went to a house in North Bay and saw the same man holding a knife and run from the dwelling.

He began cutting his wrists as he ran and started losing blood. The officers finally manage to subdue this man and he was taken by ambulance to the North Bay General Hospital.

The man sustained serious injuries to both his wrists and suffered a substantial loss of blood. The officers were also covered in a large amount of blood. The man is presently receiving care for his injuries and was also held for a psychiatric observation. No charges are pending.
