A North Bay man has been charged after a suspicious person was reported on Van Horne Crescent early morning on Saturday.

It was around 5:30 a.m., when a man was seen trying to break into vehicles.

Following a 9-1-1 call, North Bay Police investigated and several items were seized that had been stolen from vehicles.

Arrested and charged is Ryan Plausteiner, 32, of North Bay with:

  • Three counts of Trespass by Night
  • Two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime; and
  • Breach of probation.

Plausteiner has been remanded into custody for a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.

The North Bay Police Constable John Schultz says, "Typically, a theft from a motor vehicle is a crime of opportunity where someone has neglected to properly secure their motor vehicle. Especially this time of year when you may have picked up a few presents for the holiday season, you need to take the time to lock up your vehicle."

Meanwhile, North Bay OPP are investigating several vehicles broken into on Saturday at the Powassan Arena between 8 and 10 p.m.

Vehicle windows were broken and items, including wallets and Christmas gifts, were stolen.
