Updated: Major fire downtown North Bay, two injured

Police are asking everyone to avoid the scene as thick, black smoke is enveloping the area

There is a major downtown fire this morning at the Midas Muffler Shop at 390 Main St. according to Fire Chief Jason Whiteley.

Three pumper trucks are battling the blaze. Police are asking everyone to avoid the area as thick, black smoke is enveloping the area and may be toxic. The main focus at this moment appears to be one of the garage service bays.

The fire started at around 10:45 this morning.

A father and son have been taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The owner, Patsy Oneil, was sobbing at the scene of the destruction She told BayToday, "12 years of our lives just went up in smoke." She says she heard a boom before the fire started and is thankful her husband and son were not more seriously hurt.
