A major Bass fishing tournament will take over the waters of Lake Nipissing this coming weekend as the 2022 Ontario Bass Nayiom Provincial Qualifier will take place on the North Bay Area lake from July 22 to July 24.

The event will take place out of the North Bay Municipal Marina July 22-24, 2022 and will host up to 200 competitors taking part in the two day bass fishing event.

The Hank Gibson Provincial Provincial Qualifier will bring in 200 bass fishing competitors with over 80 per cent from out of town.

The event is being organized by the City of North Bay, North Bay Tourism and the local North Bay Bassmasters club.

The North Bay Bassmasters are a non-profit fishing club in North Bay with 30 members that host 8 club events per year along with local conservation efforts.

The event has a maximum field of 100 boats with 200 competing anglers in total, these numbers do not include family members, executives and staff to help run the event or volunteers.

Event organizers expect the out-of-town anglers to spend 3 to 7 days in the area with an economic spinoff from the event estimated at about $750,000 to $1,000,000.

The top 10 boaters and 10 non-boaters make Team Ontario and proceed to compete against other clubs in the 2023 B.A.S.S. North or Northeast Championship Tournament in the United States with hopes of qualifying for the Bassmaster Classic which is the biggest fishing event in the world.
