The North Bay Newcomer Network, comprised of numerous community partners including the City of North Bay’s Mayor’s Office of Economic Development, has been developing a comprehensive plan for the attraction and retention of new Canadians to the North Bay area.

As part of this strategy, the group is launching a pilot study on the settlement needs and experiences of newcomers to the area. This study will focus primarily on transition and integration issues that face newcomers as they move into the region.

At the present time, very few resources exist for new Canadians who settle here. Many newcomers come to North Bay with very little knowledge of the city and its community resources. That hurdle is compounded by language barriers that often prevent newcomers from reaching out for assistance.

The data collected via the study will be used to facilitate the development of services which will help those in need with their integration process.

The Network is currently seeking individuals and families to participate in this study. They are searching for residents who moved to North Bay since January 2000 and who were not born in Canada. Those who participate will be asked to fill in a questionnaire detailing their experience moving to, and living in North Bay.

To thank those who participate, a draw will be made for a valuable community prize package.

To participate in the study, please contact Ann Welsh at 705-495-8887 or [email protected]
