Local students advance to provincial Skills Canada competition

A number of local high school students earned the right to advance to the Ontario Technological Skills Competition at Waterloo’s RIM Park May 2-4, 2011.

The students participated in a Qualifying Competition April 16th at Canadore College where secondary students demonstrated their skills in Culinary Arts, Individual Carpentry, 2D Character Computer Animation, Small Powered Equipment, TV/Video Production, and Welding. Students who place in the top third of their category won the right to advance.

The competition in Waterloo features 63 contest areas ranging from carpentry to culinary arts, aesthetics to auto painting.

The following are the local secondary students who are moving on:

3rd Place Marc-André Rancourt CSC Franco-Nord Carpentry – Individual Corbeil

1st Place Nathan Brosseau and Jean-Marc Michaud CSC Franco-Nord TV and Video Production Sturgeon Falls

2nd Place Jake Etches and Ronen Goldfarb Near North DSB TV and Video Production North Bay

1st Place Solomon Mason Near North DSB Culinary Arts North Bay
