Canadore College has announced its nominees for the 2016 Premier’s Awards for outstanding college graduates.
The first is Mike Monaghan, the operations manager and morning show host at Moose 106.3 FM North Bay and graduate of the broadcasting-radio program.
In a news release it says, "One of the most recognizable radio personalities in northern Ontario, Monaghan is also an extraordinary volunteer and passionate fundraiser. As a sought-after celebrity volunteer, he has acted as emcee and auction host for everything from sports tournaments to fashion shows to black-tie galas. He has successfully augmented the profile of countless local organizations and raised hundreds of thousands of dollars leading to positive and meaningful impacts within the community."
Monaghan is nominated for the Creative Arts and Design Premier’s Award.
The second nominee is Kelly Crawford of Lively.
She is the Vice principal/education team lead at Kenjgewin Teg Educational Institute and graduate of Canadore’s television & video production and interactive multimedia programs.
"A passionate educator and storyteller, M’Chigeeng First Nation’s Crawford is committed to eliminating cultural barriers by sharing knowledge and strengthening relationships between indigenous and non-indigenous people across Ontario. Drawing on keen research skills, as well as her expertise in communications and an innate ability to inspire others, she has become highly respected for her work in community engagement, cross-cultural training and First Nations treaty education. Crawford recently authored We Are All Treaty People, a teacher’s resource kit for grades 1 – 8. The PhD candidate is also developing additional interdisciplinary frameworks and resources to integrate indigenous knowledge and teachings into the classroom."
Crawford is nominated for the Community Services Premier’s Award.
The annual Premier’s Awards honour the important social and economic contributions made by college graduates to the province and to the world. Nominations are submitted by Ontario’s 24 colleges and are presented in six categories - Business, Creative Arts and Design, Community Services, Health Sciences, Technology, and Recent Graduate - and are reviewed by a selection committee.
The winners will be celebrated at a gala event at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel in on November 21.
This year, there are more than 100 nominees and over 800 guests expected to attend.
