A North Bay man has been fined $1,500 and banned from hunting for two years after being found guilty of illegally killing two deer in the fall of 2005.

James Grant, 36, killed a fawn on private property near Genessee Lake road, just east of Powassan, on the evening of November 19, 2005. He returned later to recover the deer under the cover of darkness. He did not have a valid tag for the fawn. Grant had used his own game seal on another deer he had already taken.

Court heard that a few weeks later, on December 9, 2005, Grant shot another deer in the driveway of his cottage on Lake Nosbonsing , near Astorville. The open season for deer had been closed for more than two weeks. The deer was recovered by conservation officers the following day, but the meat had spoiled.

Justice of the Peace Mike Kitlar heard the matter in the Ontario Court of Justice, North Bay , on September 14, 2006.
